The CEO and directors would rotate attendance between all academy council hubs.
As an existing MAT, the Parallel Learning trust has a scheme of delegation which reflects the lines of accountability inherent in the Articles of Association. These are reviewed annually.
The Members set our strategic direction and the Trustees ensure delivery of that direction. Our Members are the guardian of our vision and values and think carefully about the right Trustees for the Board. The Members meet once a term with the CEO and the Executive Leadership Team.
The Board of Trustees are responsible for, and oversee, the management and administration of the Trust and its academies. The role of the Board is to ensure that governance is rigorous and effective across all our organisations. The Trustees are accountable to the Members and the Regional Schools Commissioner for the quality of the education they provide.
The Trustees are usually local people who are committed to serving their local community and usually have expertise in education, finance, business and law. Our CEO is one of our Trustees. The Trustees meet with the Members and the Executive Leadership Team once a term. The Trustees' Board has sub-committees.
The Board of Trustees will create academy council hubs (comprising of three or four schools) to provide local and day to day governance. These hubs will have their own decision making powers and are fully involved in the life of the academies they oversee. They discharge their legal duties on an informed basis. Our executive principals, and principals attend academy council hub meetings which are a key part of our accountability processes. A director will also attend on rotation. The academy council hubs are accountable to the Board of Trustees and provide the Trustees with advice and also make recommendations. The hubs have sub-committees just like a school's governing body.
Academies, usually three or four, that are in close proximities to each other will form one academy council hub. Below illustrates the makeup of one academy hub:
|Type of member||Number||Terms of office||How they are elected|
|Academy Headteacher - for each school||4||Indefinite||N/A by appointment as Headteacher|
|Sponsor Governor (including chair and vice chair) (1 per academy in the hub)||up to 3||4 years||By Parallel Learning Trust Board resolution. The Board will take into account any representations made by the Academy Council when considering the re-election of the Sponsor Governor.|
|Teaching staff Governor (1 per academy in the hub)||up to 4||1 year||Teacher election|
|Parent Governor (1 per academy in the hub)||up to 4||2 years||Parent election|
|Clerk to the Academy Council||1||Indefinite||To be appointed by the PLT Board|
We are always looking for new committed people to come forward to be members of our local academy council hubs and also people who would like to become Trustees.
